EMD Granada Cinema,
Walthamstow, UK for UKCG

Combining Church use with cinema operations
The Granada is Listed Grade 2*1 and is on English Heritage’s schedule of Buildings at Risk. Its owners, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) plan to invest considerable amounts on restoration convert the building to Church use. Many people in the community are opposed to its loss as a cinema.

Cinema Next was engaged by Locum Consultants to meet with lobby groups and inspect the cinema with a view to suggesting alternative methods of incorporating a cinema use.

A full report has been presented to the local authority which it is hoped will draw a line under the debate by showing that cinema and Church uses are compatible and present a financially strong operating model.
