The Wireworks, Warrington
for Modus and Warrington
Borough Council
Working with a Modus to secure an out-of-town position facing competition from town
centre development.
The out-of-town Wireworks project in Warrington was one of two competing schemes
– the other, Time Square (SIC) an in-town development. Both projects featured cinemas.
Following objections from the developers of the in-town scheme, both were subject
to a Planning Enquiry. Cinema Next was engaged to demonstrate that the
Wireworks scheme, although formally out of the town centre, had a number of benefits
over and above the Time Square location.
Cinema Next carried out a full market study on the existing and proposed
provisions. The evidence we presented to the Inspector showed that the Wireworks
scheme featured a quality, all-digital cinema that would not sit suitably at the
Town Square location and the evident ‘drinking culture’ surrounding the site. We
also demonstrated that Wireworks provided better public transport links. Warrington
Borough Council accepted our evidence as valid and upheld the Council’s decision
to grant full planning consent to the Wireworks scheme.
